　　It's something we overcome. But what if we looked at fear in a fresh way? What if we thought of fear as an amazing act of the imagination, something that can be as profound and insightful as storytelling itself?

　　It's easiest to see this link between fear and the imagination in young children, whose fears are often extraordinarily vivid.

　　When I was a child, I lived in California, which is, you know, mostly a very nice place to live, but for me as a child, California could also be a little scary.

　　I remember how frightening it was to see the chandelier that hung above our dining table swing back and forth during every minor earthquake, and I sometimes couldn't sleep at night, terrified that the Big One might strike while we were sleeping.

　　but one hundred years later, we must face the tragic fact that the negro is still not free. one hundred years later, the life of the negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. one hundred years later, the negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. one hundred years later, the negro is still languishing in the corners of american society and finds himself an exile in his own land. so we have come here today to dramatize an appalling condition.

　　in a sense we have come to our nation's capital to cash a check. when the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the constitution and the declaration of independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every american was to fall heir. this note was a promise that all men would be guaranteed the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

　　it is obvious today that america has defaulted on this promissory note insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. instead of honoring this sacred obligation, america has given the negro people a bad check which has come back marked "insufficient funds." but we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. we refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation.

　　so we have come to cash this check -- a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice.

　　為什么同學(xué)們的默寫(xiě)成績(jì)總是不那么出類(lèi)拔萃？這是一個(gè)值得我們深思的問(wèn)題。

　　經(jīng)過(guò)我的總結，主要的問(wèn)題有那么幾點(diǎn)：第一，許多同學(xué)由于粗心，在一些細節上出現紕漏，比如動(dòng)詞的第三人稱(chēng)單數需要加s，但是他們忘了，還有就是名詞的單復數有時(shí)也會(huì )被忽略，比如：ancient chinese paintings這里是一個(gè)可數名詞，要用復數形式，老師上課剛講過(guò)，而下一分鐘的默寫(xiě)仍然有同學(xué)寫(xiě)錯，那么上課的效率何在？第二點(diǎn)，也是很多同學(xué)都會(huì )犯的一個(gè)錯誤，那就是在默寫(xiě)一些較長(cháng)或較復雜的句子或詞組時(shí)，會(huì )使句子的前后時(shí)態(tài)或人稱(chēng)不統一，如此一來(lái)整句句子就會(huì )前言不搭后語(yǔ)。也有個(gè)別同學(xué)的默寫(xiě)會(huì )出現重默的情況，重默有時(shí)會(huì )一拖再拖，這都是非常不應該的，我認為這與他們對待家默的態(tài)度是密不可分的。除此之外，有的甚至默寫(xiě)回家不訂正也不讓家長(cháng)簽名，這就是態(tài)度的問(wèn)題了。望家長(cháng)對于此類(lèi)情況予以重視，進(jìn)行重點(diǎn)的督促。當然這其中也不乏做的好的同學(xué)，比如方雪吟同學(xué)，馮思嘉同學(xué)，邱海南同學(xué)等，我們都應該向他們學(xué)習。

　　從默寫(xiě)也可以引申至另一個(gè)重要的問(wèn)題，那就是聽(tīng)力。有些同學(xué)默寫(xiě)默不好是由于沒(méi)有聽(tīng)清或者沒(méi)有聽(tīng)懂。聽(tīng)力對于我們將來(lái)的生活也是十分重要的。所以我想為各位家長(cháng)介紹兩個(gè)提高聽(tīng)力的`小方法——現在許多同學(xué)都熱衷于一些動(dòng)畫(huà)片或者電影。在此，我認為大家沒(méi)有必要去看那些沒(méi)有營(yíng)養的動(dòng)漫或影片，而是應該有選擇性的去看一些英文的原版動(dòng)畫(huà)片或者美劇，比如說(shuō)迪士尼、夢(mèng)工廠(chǎng)、�？怂舅�制作的經(jīng)典動(dòng)畫(huà)片和一些益智的美劇，這些都是值得一看的。在觀(guān)看的過(guò)程中，我們要多多的注意影片人物之間的對白，這對于我們的聽(tīng)力是大有幫助的。

　　那接下來(lái)，我想為在座的各位介紹一下我個(gè)人在英語(yǔ)方面的學(xué)習方法。其實(shí)，我認為補不補課都是次要的，像我就是不補課的，我在這次的期中考試中英語(yǔ)成績(jì)是98分。其實(shí)，要想在考試中成績(jì)在90分以上并不難，主要就是做到兩點(diǎn)，上課認真聽(tīng)講，課后補充拓展。在課堂上認真聽(tīng)講，積極的與老師進(jìn)行互動(dòng)，做到把上課40分鐘所講的內容充分消化。在課余時(shí)間應該及時(shí)的查漏補缺，并且可以每天都有計劃的為自己擴充一定的詞匯量。我自己在空余時(shí)間就會(huì )有選擇的觀(guān)看一些ics頻道的節目，并且有聲地朗讀一些英語(yǔ)文章。這樣一來(lái)，我相信大家的成績(jì)一定會(huì )有所提高的，

　　but there is something that i must say to my people who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice. in the process of gaining our rightful place we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.
